Summary

Annie’s Project ©, the national farm financial program designed for women in agriculture, at Rutgers University adopted a novel delivery method for our program in 2023 –an online Canvas course titled “Annie Goes Online: Risk Management at Your Kitchen Table”. Our 22 participants included young farmers taking on more responsibilities on their family farms and families planning to start farm enterprises. Funded by a Northeast Extension Risk Management Education grant, a six-module course was developed, each module focused on a risk management topic. The specific program content was selected based on participants’ comments on prior Annie’s Project program evaluations and input from NJ Farm Bureau and Extension faculty who work directly with producers. The mechanics of putting the course site together with learning objectives, recorded speaker presentations, resource materials, pre/post quizzes and live lectures via Zoom will be explained. The presentation will explore the Canvas course site and give participants an opportunity to access the course as a resource for their programming efforts. Our procedure for designing program evaluation methods of pre/post quizzes, optional assignments and retrospective survey results will be discussed and the results of the evaluations will be shared. Pre/Post quiz scores for specific risk management topics increased by a range of 11-27 percent. Retrospective survey results (N=6) based on a 5-point Likert scale increased for specific risk management related topics, each risk area had several specific topics. The average increase for each area of risk were: human +2.27, legal +2.38, financial +2.45, production +2.89, and marketing +2.63.
