Conference Name Factors affecting value of calves sold through South Dakota sale barns

Adele Harty and Olivia Amundson

Summary

During October and November data was collected at 5 sale barns across South Dakota on approximately 115,00 head of calves to determine the value of various management practices. Factors evaluated include hide color, gender, weight, vaccination protocol, implants, creep feed, horns, branded programs, weaned, uniformity and price per hundred weight. Data is currently being analyzed, but based on past data, we anticipate learning valuable information from the data and sharing it with producers to help them improve management practices and overall profitability of their operations.
