Many laws impact a landowner’s property rights and responsibilities. Most laws affecting property are state laws. However, several here. Local governments also pass laws (called ordinances) that impact property; however, the large number of local governments make providing information about local laws impossible in this publication, except in a very broad way. Each local government’s laws may be different, and landowners should be aware of their local ordinances
