Thinning can dramatically shorten the stem exclusion phase by removing the less dominant trees, and can often generate revenue from those smaller trees by selling them to local mills. Thinning also allows us to intervene in order to increase species and structural diversity by varying our density of thinning and favoring keeping underrepresented species.
