Landlink (or farmlink) programs attempt to match agricultural landowners and land seekers who are beginning farmers and ranchers. This poster contains common threads among landlink programs collected through interviews with executive directors of matching programs as well as literature on the topic. Such programs are often operated by universities, nonprofit organizations, and land trusts. Their aim is to facilitate the successful start of a farmer or rancher, often by attempting to match a retiring farmer with a beginning farmer, but all types of landowners are served. A core output of a landlink program is a database of land owners and land seekers. Many programs attempt to screen and actively match people in the database. Many programs also provide materials, training, and advising. Overall, the programs address issues of land access and farm/ranch succession/transition planning, and they intend to help agricultural land remain in agricultural production.
