Wisconsin farmers looking to create additional revenue streams to their farm are interested in alternatives in production and processing, and struggle with business planning, marketing and regulations.
The Resilient Farms Conference was held in 2018 and 2019 for farmers in the phases of exploring and developing new business ideas to diversify their farm. The one-day program drew farmers from across the state to learn of efforts in diversification, and provided information and resources by industry experts. Topics included various value added production topics, marketing and business strategy, planning and analysis, and guides to the regulatory and licensing process. This was paired with the opportunity to meet with industry and Extension experts for 20-minute consultations. The evaluation of participants provides insight into the needs and challenges being faced by rural entrepreneurs, and ideas to address them.
