In this workshop, participants will learn about best marketing strategies for farmers and the techniques CISA (Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture) used to educate and train farmers to implement new practices. The workshop builds on a series of tip sheets and workshops that CISA developed over the last three years to help specialty crop farmers perfect existing marketing strategies and explore new marketing techniques from e-business opportunities to paid advertising to agritourism. Our trainings start off with an introduction to the concept of strategic marketing plans and then walk growers through a series of trainings in different marketing strategies. In addition to learning how CISA runs its program and educates growers, participants will take home a list of marketing resources to help them develop similar offerings and expertise.
CISA is best know for our buy local program, “Be a Local Hero, Buy Locally Grown” ® which will be in its 12th year in 2009. This program has allowed CISA to develop first hand marketing expertise to complement and inform our farmer trainings and education offerings. Kelly Coleman, CISA’s Program Director, has overseen the Local Hero and technical assistance programs for 2 years and prior to joining CISA spent three years working at an environmental PR firm.
