Conference Name Connecting Native American Youth to their Land Based Futures

Rachel Lindvall

Summary

Federally Recognized Tribal Extension Program (FRTEP) offices on the Rosebud and Oglala Lakota Reservations in South Dakota leveraged Beginning Farmer Rancher Development Program funds and other operational programs with Rosebud's ERME grant to link Native American Youth to Agricultural Futures. This presentation will discuss the successes, new partnerships and the lessons learned from the youth themselves, from community members and from frank and open discussions on the barriers in concepts and even semantics that need to be considered when promoting agriculture in this context. (Spoiler Alert: this might be a paradigm shift for some of you). We will talk about the models we are using going forward and will definitely entertain your questions and opinions.
