Summary

Farmers and ranchers in Puerto Rico have proven that they are resilient. In the last five years, they have suffered many losses due to recent emergencies such as hurricanes, earthquakes, and now due to the pandemic. After these events, they have seen how important is to purchase farm and crop insurance. The project titled Risk Management and Emergency Preparedness in Puerto Rico produced a 5-minute video demonstrating how important is to have farm insurance. The video is in Spanish, but has English captions. It presents the true story of three farmers and how their crop insurance helped them continue their operations after the landfall of hurricanes Irma and MarĂa in 2017 in Puerto Rico. In the video, they recommend purchasing insurance. In addition, one of them advises other farmers to keep farm records, save receipts (sales and purchase of inputs), take pictures of the farm, update accounting and financial records. This is the evidence in the case of a claim. This presentation will present the process of selecting the farmers through filming the video. The video can be located at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEoKxOBgLS4&t=2s.
