Abstract
In late 2022, USDA's Risk Management Agency (RMA) and the Southern Risk Management
Education Center (SRMEC), which is housed at the University of Arkansas Division Agriculture
launched the Crop Insurance Navigator Program. It was designed to strengthen outreach and
technical assistance to farmers and ranchers through the development of a cohort of risk
management by Crop Insurance Navigators, which are Program Specialists that are trained by
project collaborators to strategically and intentionally engage and serve producers, influencers,
land grant facilities, agricultural colleges and universities, community based organizations and
nonprofit government organizations across the crop insurance sector.
Since September 2023, the Crop Insurance Navigators have reached thousands of farmers and
ranchers, mostly within the Southeastern United States.? Delivering risk management education
to farmers and ranchers remains one of the highest priorities for RMA/USDA. Education and
outreach are being utilized to address these gaps in knowledge, as well as, the implementation
of risk management tools and strategies by producers. Our goal for this concurrent session will
be to:
? Showcase this crop insurance project and its outcomes.
? Highlight the work that has been done with producer influencers, land-grant
faculty, agriculture colleges/universities, community-based?organizations, and
non-government organizations across the crop insurance sector within
the Southeastern United States.
? Exhibit the plan for continued assistance to farmers and ranchers in
adopting individualized risk management plans (crop insurance).
