Conference Name Overcoming Risk During Climate Variability: Recordkeeping in Small Scale Farming

Jennifer Hashley

Summary

The project strengthened small-scale, beginning, specialty crop, and underserved farmers’ ability to manage climate-related production and financial risks through improved recordkeeping and data management. Using New Entry’s broad outreach network—including training programs, market connections, newsletters reaching over 12,000 subscribers, and targeted partnerships serving veterans and underserved communities—the project delivered accessible education and support. Activities included six workshops, six farmer learning circles, individualized coaching, and access to The Farmers’ Office online tools. In total, 185 participants engaged in the project, with 86 farmers receiving more than 400 hours of technical assistance. The project exceeded expected outcomes: farmers improved financial and climate risk management skills, and eight producers secured funding for infrastructure and equipment upgrades. Overall, the initiative strengthened farm resilience and enhanced long-term viability for producers facing climate variability.
