SRMEC provided assistance to Kentucky State University to train small, African American farmers in south central Kentucky on risk management issues related to farm diversification. Primarily beginning farmers, they were diversifying their family´s tobacco and grass-based dairy farms into pastured poultry, vegetable, aquaculture, and value-added beef and hog operations. This successful project had many participants involved in the trainings and assisted the farmers cooperating in the Farmer2City Connection to strengthen their cooperative efforts in direct and value-added marketing, while practicing improved business planning.
