Conference Name Risk minimization for beekeepers

Courtney Bir and James Jones

Summary

Beekeeping is growing in popularity, especially amongst smaller scale operations and beginning farmers and ranchers. Although beekeeping clubs are a popular source of information, there is little publicly available information or tools to help beekeepers mitigate risk. Through our extension efforts we focused on the risk management topics of production risk, price or market risk, financial risk, and legal/institutional risk. Post-COVID producer preferences for educational programming shifted. In an effort to reach the widest audience possible, three methods are being used to deliver the project: in-person workshops, an online course, and publicly available extension documents through a content specific website. Our poster will demonstrate how we are helping producers mitigate risk, as well as the methods of education/communication we are using.
