Jenna Nees, Kelly Heckaman, Robin Reid, Jessica Groskopf, and Katie Hothem

Summary

The Power of Negotiation and Open Conversation was a unique partnership between the Women in Agriculture Programs in Indiana, Kansas, and Nebraska. The project targeted the 90,422 women producers and 51,259 female landlords (source: 2017 USDA Census) in these three states.

The project focused on writing agricultural lease agreements, landlord tenant relationships, negotiations, and conservation. Participants in all three states interacted with keynote speakers via Zoom at multiple host sites. Additionally, facilitators led participants through state-specific presentations, local presentations, and hands-on activities focused on the specified leasing objective for that evening.

This program series was designed to cater to women by encouraging them to ask questions, connect with participants and speakers, and share their experiences. This hands-on program was conducted in January and February of 2023 and focused on the goals of increasing the knowledge, skills and abilities of attendees around the subject of agricultural leases.
