Livestock on farms offer key benefits: manure production for fertilizer, adding value to crops, improving soil health through well-managed grazing and manure usage, and providing an entry point for a next generation to join the farm. All those benefits sound great, but even so, many farmers, farm advisors, and lenders are unsure of how livestock enterprises could affect a farm’s overall financial performance. Uncertainty over financials means livestock opportunities on crop farms may go unclaimed.
