Summary

Graphical representation of Pasture, Rangeland, and Forage Insurance (PRF). PRF is precipitation insurance. Winter months should be considered in addition to summer months. Choose 2-month blocks to insure. Precipitation levels, premiums, and payouts are all tied to grid cells that are approximately 9 miles x 18 miles at north central U.S. latitudes. Select coverage levels of 70% to 90% of historical average precipitation, based on NOAA data. If actual precipitation in a grid falls below the percentage chosen, it triggers a payout for the farmer.
