Summary
It may sound cliché but it’s true: accidents happen on even the safest of farms. In the case of employee injuries, things can spiral when a farmer or rancher is suddenly on the hook for treatment costs and, in serious cases, legal fees and steep penalties. Why is this? This is because injuries that occur in the course of employment are generally managed through workers’ compensation insurance, and every state has its own laws for when farm and ranch employers are required to have it.
