Summary

Water is the life blood of all agriculture operations but the right to appropriate substantial quantities of water is closely regulated by the State. In order to successfully secure a water appropriation permit a Maryland farmer must fully understand the permit system. Further, all property owners in Maryland are responsible for the proper drainage of their water and to prevent unforeseen legal consequences, property owners need to understand the basics of drainage law.
