This fact sheet addresses homeowner’s insurance, a form of property insurance that covers a private residence. This type of insurance provides coverage related to loss of one’s home, its contents, loss of use (additional living expenses associated with temporary housing), or loss of other personal possessions of the homeowner. It also provides liability insurance for accidents that may happen at the home or within the boundaries of the property. Like farm owner’s coverage, and homeowner’s insurance covers property damage, fire, and liability coverage to the dwelling and contents.
