Summary

The popularity of pasture poultry products largely increased in recently year due to the demanding needs for long term grass feed meet and eggs. Pastured poultry is a sustainable agriculture technique that chickens have free access to grass and they are allowed to move freely. As opposed to indoor poultry where thousands of birds are squeezed in a small area, pastured poultry provides humane treatment and health benefits to birds which leads to increasing demands for poultry products. To meet the needs of pastured poultry products, pasture poultry farms has grown largely. Most of them started as a small family farm with limit knowledge of safe agriculture practices. The safety of pastures poultry products does not solely depend on feed. Feed, water quality, living environment, biosecurity and health and well-fare of pasture poultry are all crucial to produce safe poultry products. Among these factors, water quality plays an important role. Water quality is vital to agriculture, which provides mankind the very fundamental needs for survive and thrive. The water quality could be defined as followed. Water quality is measured by the corelated factors (physical, chemical, biological, etc.) of the standard of a specific usage. As for agriculture, considering that the negative impacts agricultural operations could have on water, the water quality must reach a suitable standard for irrigation and drinking for livestock.
