Summary

Mushrooms and medicinal herbs are high value crops to consider. Woodland herbs require shade and moisture. Mushrooms can be grown on logs, in straw or sawdust, directly in the soil of the understory. Mushrooms dowels implanted in logs take about a year to develop the colony within the log to produce mushrooms. Sawdust inoculated and soil grown produce sooner. High quality herbs and mushrooms can receive a premium price when sold.
