Summary

Do you dread having tough conversations with your clientele about succession planning, farm finances, family and personnel conflicts related to the farm business or other stressful topics? All these issues can be difficult to discuss. Though you have technical expertise, sometimes starting and managing tough conversations that help individuals and businesses move forward and succeed can be a challenge. This session will review resources developed and evaluation data of programs offered as part of the Northeast Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Network (FRSAN-NE/Cultivemos) project entitled "Confident Conversations: Using Improvisation and Positive Communication When Working with Farmers Under Stress." We will also review some of the techniques and processes to help you be more self-assured in managing challenging conversations. We'll introduce you to using improv communication techniques, appreciative inquiry processes, and positive psychology fundamentals in ways that will enable you to have more confident conversations.
