Conference Name Effective Adult Education to Transfer Learning to Skill Adoption in Risk Management Programming.

Seth Wilner and Michael Sciabarrasi

Summary

This session outlines essential aspects of adult learning in the context of risk management education. The successful implementation of our RME Grant, “Advanced Farm Management Training for Mid-Career Producers” utilized effective adult educational methods and was highly successful in terms of translating knowledge in skills. As Einstein noted, “Learning is experience, everything else is information.” Building upon our personal experiences teaching the program, our evaluation data, and our increased understanding of effective adult educational methods, this session will help the participants to effectively utilize our curriculum, education materials, and teaching guide to enhance an effective transfer of learning from classroom concepts to skill development. Participants will also learn skills to enhance the effectiveness of their programs with farmers and other adult learners. We will also share the outcomes and impacts we measured from our project. Participants will leave with a flash drive that contains the teaching guide, PowerPoint presentations, videos, and our fictional farm case study with enterprise budgets and cost of production calculations.
