Conference Name Incorporating Risk Management into a Statewide Women in Agriculture Conference

Kim Henken

Summary

Since 1999, Kentucky has held six statewide conferences for women in agriculture. These conferences are designed to empower women in agriculture through education, involvement and action. In 2004, Kentucky Farm Bureau News described the conferences as "a can´t miss event where you can conveniently get up to speed with what´s going on in Kentucky agriculture."
Partnering with Kentucky State University, USDA Risk Management Agency funds have been utilized to offer risk management learning sessions at the past three conferences. Topics addressed each year have varied. In 2005, emphasis was placed upon business planning and estate planning. In 2004, these issues were addressed along with liability concerns. The conference always includes sessions to help women get up-to-date information about USDA programs. This presentation will share highlights, along with evaluation data from the three most recent conferences.
