Conference Name Making Health Insurance Less Confusing Can Save Money and Improve Health

Catherine Sorenson, Jesse Ketterman, Dorothy Nuckols, and Lisa McCoy

Summary

Healthcare spending can be a significant cost for many agricultural businesses and health insurance is a major tool for helping employees manage this cost. Those with diabetes are likely to spend even more on healthcare expenses than the average person. But if people, especially those with diabetes, do not understand their health insurance plans, then they may struggle to manage their diabetes and afford the costs of care. This program will present an education program that can help educators and producers, especially those with diabetes, better understand and use their health insurance. As a result, they can improve their health and lower their health care spending.
