Navajo farmers and ranchers face significant financial challenges due to their general lack of knowledge and access to resources to address the production, marketing, financial, and legal risks associated with their operations. The proposed ERME 2025 National Conference Poster Exhibit titled Navajo Farmer and Rancher Risk Management Mitigation Project will highlight the collaborative work of the New Mexico Cooperative Extension Service (NM CES) and Navajo Nation Dine’ College Land Grant Office (DC LGO), with grant support (April 2023-September 2024) from the Western Risk Management Education Center (WERME-C), to enhance the profitability and sustainability of underserved Navajo farmers and ranchers through the (1) training and adoption of “best practices” designed to mitigate producer production, marketing, financial, and legal risks and (2) increased access to USDA FSA and NRCS, Navajo Nation, and other programs and financial and technical resources.
