Oh, the places you’ll go… when the planning committee brings together women engaged in agricultural businesses, farm wives and Extension professionals. By pulling together these individuals with diverse backgrounds, Ohio State University Extension Woman In Ag program in Northwest Ohio has broadened their scope of educational programming. The Women In Agriculture mission statement states we will support families involved with agriculture by conducting educational programs and activities that address their pursuit in building independent and productive lives has guided the committee.
Farm wives in Northwest Ohio are not isolated, 80% of farm wives work off the farm which has been reflected in the programs offered at the conferences. The committee has broadened their scope from an annual conference to offering additional seminars on topics as estate planning, sponsored legislative visits with ag emphasis, and trips to investigate agriculture policy including Washington D.C. with discussions with USDA Farm Service Agency, legislative visits, and Chicago Board of Trade.
Evaluations indicate families have gained knowledge that can be applied to their family business, personal life and increase family communications. The evaluations results have served as a tool to leverage annual sponsorships for the conference from across the region.
