Online Teaching Tools for Farm Financial Management Education

Summary

Nearly every producer provides a balance sheet and other financial documentation annually to their lenders. Most of this financial information never makes it back to the top of the pile once it is returned to the farm business office. If these documents are so important, how can producers put them to use in managing their businesses? It is our belief that most agricultural producers want to know how to use their financial information but lack the training and knowledge to effectively do it. This project provides a set of innovative online training modules to help producers understand how to interpret common financial statements and measures and how to use them in the day to day management of their businesses. We will talk about the process and technologies used to put together the tools, what we learned in putting them together, how they are being used, and our goals for using these tools in future education programs.
