Returning to the Farm was developed to target next-generation farmers before they return to the farm. The target audience was students attending four SD colleges. The proposed activities address farm transition's human and financial risks through conferences, tours, webinars, and curriculum development.
Many components of this project worked beyond my wildest expectations. Others did not. Providing information related to transition planning in the form of classwork enabled the students to return to their families with conversation topics to discuss BEFORE encountering the trials and problems of transitioning labor, management, and ownership.
