The 1890 Extension Task Force for Small Farms, specifically the task force members Marion Simon, Daniel Lyons, and Nelson Daniels, working with the USDA-CSREES National Program Leader for Farm Business Management, the Southern Region Risk Management Education Center, and Texas Cooperative Extension, developed a risk management business planning curriculum for small producers. This comprehensive manual focuses on strategic planning and farm records. The manual includes: educational materials for limited-resource and low literacy farmers, lesson plans for Extension and others to use in teaching the curriculum, color-coded transaction logs for the financial analysis, case studies to demonstrate the materials, and pre-made overheads for powerpoints and teaching materials. This breakout session will provide an overview of the total curriculum and a brief training session on the materials, particularly emphasizing the strategic planning and financial transactions sections.
