Summary
A perennial problem in farm business succession planning is determining the value of the contribution of the inbusiness heir to the wealth of the owners of the business. All too often the value of the contribution is either ignored or undervalued. Thus thus the inbusiness heir must purchase the value of the wealth created and left in the estate. This often leads to failure of the business and alienation of the family. The Beginning Farmer Center has developed a case study and spreadsheets that will aid families in the discussion of and calculation of the amount.
