Summary

The Ohio Women in Agriculture Team (OWIAT) has developed and delivered extension resources and outreach programs to Ohio women producers for over a decade through the Ohio Women in Agriculture Learning Network (OWIALN). During this time, the number of farm operators in Ohio has increased 15% to over 132,000 individuals with one out of three being female (33%). Collaborative team efforts have enabled OWIALN to address the five areas of Risk Management education (human, financial, marketing, production, and legal) among Ohio women interested in food, agriculture, natural resources, and small business. OWIALN has grown and expanded to include: 1.) annual outreach opportunities at Ohio’s largest farming venue, the Farm Science Review 2.) regional conferences focusing on risk management topics, mentoring, and youth engagement 3.) traditional risk management education through Annie’s Project and Inspired by Annie’s Project programs such as Women for the Land programs 4.) and innovative outreach efforts such as Kitchen Table Conversations, Wednesday Women in Agriculture webinars, and social media networks. Each outreach effort and its impact will be discussed in detail. Through creative and innovative programming over the last ten years, OWIAT and OWIALN efforts have strengthened communication skills, enhanced management skills, and created local networks for Ohio women involved in all aspects of agriculture.
