Conference Name Cybersecurity for Iowa Farmers and Rural Businesses

Madeline Schultz

Summary

Agriculture is one of 16 critical infrastructure sectors for the U.S. economy and national security. The digitization of agriculture and the exponential rise in the number of internet connected devices on Iowa's farms and rural businesses is raising concerns. Recent cyberattacks on Iowa’s agribusinesses have increased the urgency to secure farm and rural business cyber ecosystems.

The goal of this project is to increase awareness of cybersecurity and help managers identify and implement steps to minimize risks. The project team will introduce the novel topic of cybersecurity to a familiar audience of farmers and rural business owners through strategic partnerships with cybersecurity experts and agricultural businesses. The team will: 1) post videos and articles on the Ag Decision Maker website to be accessed by 600 self-guided learners; 2) host a four-part webinar series on introductory cybersecurity to be accessed by 200 online learners; 3) host intermediate cybersecurity workshops in eight locations to be accessed by 200 in-person learners; and 4) host a four-part webinar series on advanced cybersecurity to be accessed by 200 online learners.

Participants will improve understanding of cybersecurity threats and be supported in taking actions to minimize the risks of internet connectivity attacks or physical system failures.
