Summary

The University of Minnesota Extension received a grant from Extension Risk Management Education in the 2019 funding cycle to host two Farm Transition and Estate Planning Weekend Retreats in Minnesota in February 2020. As a result of this previous grant from ERME, the University of Minnesota Extension Agricultural Business Management team continues to work with the Minnesota State College and University system to host these Farm Transition Retreats for the public to attend free of charge. These Farm Transition and Estate Planning Weekend Retreats were hosted in conjunction with the Minnesota State College and University system, which oversees the one-on-one Farm Business Management education and record-keeping system. We have used this initial funding from ERME to propel and expand these retreats. We have found sponsorship dollars from local businesses and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture to continue offering these weekend retreats in different sites across Minnesota free of charge to Minnesota farmers and landowners. The Farm Transition Retreats started in February 2020 and have been offered every year since. This breakout session will go over specific numbers of attendees and evaluation data to show how successful the workshops have been. The differences between the farm transition weekend retreats and the one-day farm transition workshops that the University of Minnesota Extension offers will be elaborated on.
