Summary

The University of Minnesota Extension has built a Beginning Farmer Workshop series that is titled the Minnesota Beginning Farmer Institute. These workshops have been started with the help of an ERME Grant that was awarded in April of 2023. This session will go in depth in the approach, material, evaluations, and next steps of the workshop series. The initial round of workshops had four separate workshops per site, each with a different topic. Meeting one explained business plans and business goals, meeting two defined agricultural taxes and business entities, meeting three went over finances and day four clarified land rent and grain marketing. With the help of the initial ERME Grant there were four sperate workshop sites in Minnesota with a total of 344 participants. 98% of all attendees reported being able to use the information gained from the workshops. Come to this session to learn how effective and beneficial these workshops were to young and beginning farmers in Minnesota.
