How Does RightRisk Enhance the Effectiveness of Teaching Other Farm Management Educational Programs?

Summary
Risk and the management of risk permeates all aspects of a today’s agricultural business environment. The move to freer global trade, less government intervention, more environmental regulation, and increased concerns over food safety has translated into more variability in market prices, yields, legal liabilities, and human relations. Many producers are exploring new ideas and looking beyond traditional products and markets.
With all these changes, Agriculture producers are becoming more aware of the importance of farm/ranch management education. i.e. preparing budgets, developing financial statements, understanding financial ratios, developing business and marketing plans, etc. No matter what the subject there is always uncertainty. The manager seldom has complete knowledge to make management decisions. Typically, farmers must make decisions based on possible outcomes and the individual’s attitude toward risk.
RightRisk has been used successfully with other farm management educational programs to help participants gain a better understanding of risk and how it relates to the topic being discussed. During the presentation of this paper, the authors will demonstrate how RightRisk can be used to enhance a variety of different educational topics and workshop settings. The authors will also explain the different scenarios and educational formats that have been developed in RightRisk. These scenarios and formats make it easy to address the needs of a variety of different audiences.
