Summary

As a partner Regional Navigator with the Farmland for a New Generation Program run through American Farmland Trust - NY, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County has focused much of their work on identifying non-operating landowners in the county and facilitating connections with area farmers looking for additional acreage, typically for hay or growing other forages. Using a case study of a relationship which was forged in 2022 between a landowner and a livestock farmer we will describe our lessons learned along the way, and best practices, in working to identify non-operating landowners and methodologies in communication and resources shared to enable to start of this relationship keeping additional farmland in production in Broome County, NY.
