Conference Name Managing Crop Risks: A Model Public and Private Educational Partnership

Steven Johnson

Summary

Producers and farmland owners across Iowa have improved their ability to manage production, financial and market price risk through combined efforts of an educational partnership between Iowa State University Extension and the Farm Credit Services of America.
The "Managing Crop Risks" workshops began with one site and 50 participants in 1999. In 5 years, the program has expanded to 19 sites across Iowa and 6 locations in Nebraska and South Dakota in addition to a web site: www.managingcroprisks.com
These interactive sessions are designed to help producers and landowners assess quickly risk management strategies that can be adapted to their farming operations. Extension specialists serve as trainers and facilitators and provide ongoing information after the educational events.
Programs offerings will be expanded again in 2005 to meet the emerging need of clients and prospects to build their knowledge of risk management tools utilizing a model public and private educational partnership.
