The Executive Program for Agricultural Producers (TEPAP) made its debut in 1991 in response to the farm crisis of the 1980s. Conducting the program, TEPAP faculty comes from across the country—from the private sector, from land grant universities, and from business schools. The instructional focus is not production-based or commodity-specific but rather on business and financial issues of agricultural producers and agribusinesses.
The issues faced by commercial farming and ranching operations are the same as any other commercial business: governing finances, managing personnel, evaluating new market opportunities, adapting to regulatory and technology changes, succession planning and leadership transition. However, many farm-based businesses have grown faster than the financial knowledge or managerial acumen of the owners. TEPAP equips agribusiness owners to develop professional financial and management practices, improve family communication, provide a path forward for business growth, adapt to change, and transition for future plans.
For 34 years, TEPAP has brought together farmers, ranchers, and agribusiness owners who want to manage their operations more professionally. The purpose of this poster is to highlight how the changes and improvement of financial and managerial skills combined with interpersonal networking impact business success. Participants complete evaluations each time after attending TEPAP and provide input on what has been their biggest takeaway and where they have seen the most improvement for their operations. Findings determine future programming needs to better serve the newest generation of agricultural leaders.
