Summary

In 2018 Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County, the Farmers Market Federation of NY, CISA, NOFA-VT, the Maryland Cooperative Extension embarked on a three year NESARE PDP aimed at better understanding consumer shopping preferences as it related to buying local and how local farms could capitalize on this to increase sales. A national consumer survey designed by Cornell University was launched and over a two month period close to 4000 responses were gathered! From the responses a white paper and toolkit was created to be utilized by direct marketing farmers and those who work with them on areas of marketing, human resources and production - just to name a few. This presentation will give an overview of the survey results and toolkit recommendations to empower educators and service providers to work with direct marketing farmers and increase profitability.
